The Long-Read Corner
Not every article needs to be read in a spare minute on the bus. Some subjects deserve a cup of tea, a comfortable chair and a little patience. This corner collects the pieces we would hand to a friend with the words "read this when you have time". Each one goes further into its subject than our shorter notes, and most will leave you with a plan rather than just a tip.
Journeys worth planning slowly
- Tanzania's quieter safari regions — a look beyond the most famous parks, for travellers who prefer space and silence to crowds.
- Lin San Temple in Singapore — the history and meaning of a calm sanctuary in a busy city.
- Visiting a Buddhist temple respectfully — the habits that make a temple visit easy for you and for the people praying there.
The house, room by room
- Passive house glass — how high-performance glazing works and why windows matter so much to comfort.
- Water damage restoration — what happens after a leak, and why speed makes such a difference.
- Modern chandeliers — choosing a statement light for a contemporary room without overwhelming it.
- An eco-friendly bathroom renovation — materials, water use and the decisions that last longest.
Screens and evenings in
- IPTV for sports fans — how live games, replays and second screens fit together on match day.
- Swedish entertainment through IPTV — a viewer's tour of a whole national television culture.
At the table and at the party
- Sushi, precision on a plate — the rice, the knife work and the restraint behind a single mouthful.
- Omakase etiquette — a companion piece for the night you finally sit at the counter.
- The wedding invitation timeline — a calm backwards plan from save-the-date to final numbers.
How to read them
There is no right order. Some readers work through one shelf at a time; others jump between a safari and a bathroom renovation in the same evening, which is very much in the spirit of the journal. Every piece shows its publication date, so check practical details such as prices and opening times before acting on them.
If you would rather start with something shorter, where new readers begin offers a lighter tour. And if a long read leaves you with a question, send us a note.
